|This is a fabulous singing bird box with a magnificent case made up of pieces of beautiful mother-of-pearl that shows
off its colours to an exceptional degree.
The top of the case has been beautifully set out so that the pieces of mother-of-pearl fan out in a lovely pattern. The lid is of silver and Mother-of-pearl and has a silver mount set on to the top of the lid of two love birds on a branch.
Around the sides, the mother-of-pearl is in vertical lines, while to the sides of the top the pieces are laid horizontally.
The colours that this box give off are fabulous. Even the operating slide is mother-of-pearl set in silver. The bird has its original beautifully irridescent feathers and has an ivory beak.
The box operates by pressing the silver and mother-of-pearl slide to the right hand side of the box and the lid opens and the full bodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the silver grille & the lid lowers.
The box is Austrian and the silver is marked KD. Circa 1920.
