Antique French First Empire ormolu mantel clock of Diana

A fabulous antique French First Empire ormolu mantel clock of Diana. She carries a bow in her left hand and a prominent applied ormolu mount on the side of the clock housing has a reperesentation of arrows. There are further mounts to the front of the case with quivers for arrows held by swans on a lyre. However she also carries a torch in her right hand, has roses in her hair rather than the more usual crescent moon and there are mounts with cupids wearing butterfly wings. The ormolu is in superb condition and of a beautiful rich colour. Very nice large bun feet and a very classical design puts this clock soundly in the First Empire period. The dial of white convex enamel with blued steel Breguet style moon hands is surrounded by a fine ormolu bezel of roses. The movement is of 8 day duration and is regulated by a silk suspended pendulum. The movement strikes the hours and halves on a fine cast bell by means of countwheel; strike. France circa 1810. 20 inches high by 13.5 inches wide by 6 inches deep ( 50 cm by 33.75 cm by 15 cm).
