Antique and unusual automaton water clock in the form of a Gothic Revival public fountain.
The case with Gothic theme through out is in original ormolu ( not yet cleaned).
The centre of the clock has the figure of the Madonna and child surrounded by clouds.
Below them is the face of a cherub from which flows the water. The water flows into the original crystal glass trough which is encased in gothic ormolu tracery.
On the base is an applied mount of a Bishop's crook, a palm frond and a cross.
The four feet are quite superb heads of winged putti.
The dial is surrounded by a bezel of star points and is of silvered bronze with blued steel Breguet hands.
The movement I an 8 day stiking movment striking the hours and halves on a bell and the clock is regulated by a silk suspended pendulum.
The water automaton is powered by a separate movement in the base.
France circa 1835-40.
