This is a magnificent bronze version of this most iconic late 19th century bronze of "David after the Battle", with David sheathing his sword with his foot on the head of Goliath by Marius Jean Antonin Mercié (1845-1916) This subject received the Medal of Honour when it was shown at the Paris Salon des Beaux Arts. It is Signed 'A MERCIE' to the top of the base, and with the 'RÉDUCTION MÉCANIQUE A.COLLAS' stamp on the reverse. It is also fully signed by the famous fondeur barbedienne on the moulding of the base " F. Barbedienne, Fondeur".
