A charming and exceptionally petite Swiss silver and enamel sub miniature carriage clock, dating to circa 1920, and signed Pontana to the dial. Executed with remarkable precision and refinement, the case is of clean architectural form, clad in luminous ivory-white enamel panels framed by delicate cobalt blue borders, creating a strikingly elegant and restrained Art Deco aesthetic.
The silver-mounted case houses a finely detailed silvered dial with Roman numerals and elegant blued steel hands beneath a convex crystal. Opening the hinged rear door reveals the beautifully compact Swiss-made eight-day movement, a miniature feat of horological engineering designed with the same attention to quality found in full-sized carriage clocks of the period.
Sub miniature clocks of this calibre were luxury objects intended for travel, dressing tables, or the refined interiors of private railway compartments and grand hotels during the early twentieth century. Their diminutive scale, combined with high quality workmanship, makes them particularly sought after today.
An especially attractive example, retaining a sophisticated and understated palette with excellent visual presence despite its tiny proportions. A delightful collector’s piece combining Swiss precision, fine enamelling, and elegant period design.
