Sub Miniature Silver and Enamel Carriage Clock by Juvenia

Sub Miniature Silver and Enamel Carriage Clock by Juvenia
A delightful and highly unusual Swiss sterling silver and enamel sub miniature carriage clock by Juvenia, dating to circa 1920–1930. Elegantly executed in the emerging Art Deco taste, the arched case is decorated with striking vertical bands of cobalt blue and white enamel, producing a bold geometric design that gives the tiny clock remarkable visual presence. The silvered dial is signed Juvenia and Fab Suisse, with stylised Arabic numerals and elegant blued steel hands beneath a convex glass bezel. Opening the rear door reveals the finely engineered Swiss thirty-hour movement with integral winding key, an ingenious miniature mechanism demonstrating the exceptional level of craftsmanship associated with the Juvenia workshops of La Chaux-de-Fonds. The interior retains crisp original inscriptions, including Ateliers Juvenia, La Chaux-de-Fonds (Suisse) et Paris, alongside Sterling Silver and serial number 48007. Further marks include Juvenia M.F.G. Swiss, Argent Doré Fab Suisse, Swiss silver marks, 0.925 standard mark, and D.G.A within cartouches, all confirming the quality of manufacture and silver content. The movement itself is similarly numbered 48007 and marked Argent Doré and D.G., indicating the original gilt finish to the movement plates. Sub miniature clocks of this type were luxury novelty objects intended for travel, vanity cases, or refined bedside and desk use during the early twentieth century. Examples retaining such strong enamel decoration, complete markings, and sophisticated proportions are increasingly sought after by collectors of miniature horology and Art Deco design. A particularly attractive and stylish example, combining Swiss precision engineering with bold decorative enamelling in an exceptionally compact and charming form.
