Austrian Silver-Gilt and Green Guilloché Enamel Cigarette Case Austria, circa 1920 An elegant Austrian silver cigarette case of refined Art Deco taste, beautifully decorated throughout with translucent green guilloché enamel over an engine-turned ground. The gently curved rectangular form is framed by polished silver borders and centred to the cover with a finely pierced and engraved silver plaque depicting a stylised architectural garden pavilion. The vivid green enamel displays a particularly attractive linear guilloché pattern, catching and reflecting the light with remarkable depth and brilliance. Opening on a concealed hinge, the interior retains its original gilt-washed finish, creating a striking contrast with the cool green exterior. The reverse is equally enamelled, demonstrating the high quality of manufacture and attention to detail characteristic of Viennese and Austrian luxury silverwork of the period. Hallmarked for Austria and dating to the early twentieth century, around 1920. Austrian silver of this period commonly bears the Diana Head hallmark system used throughout the late Austro-Hungarian.
