A fine and large French Napoleon III mantel clock. Constructed entirely of ormolu the clock is dominated by the figures of two children, one at each side of the clock leaning against the clock housing. The child to the left is playing a horn, the child to the right, cymbals. To the top of the clock are musical elements. The clock has a shaped base and stands upon ormolu feet. The dial is of white convex enamel and the time is told by fine gilt bronze hands. The movement is of 8 day duration, is regulated by a steel suspended pendulum and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. The movement is stamped by Japy Freres. Circa 1870. The gilding is entirely original although there is some rubbing. 30 inches by 22 inches high by 7.5 inches deep ( 75 cms wide by 55 cms high by 19 cms deep).
