Antique French Industrial Series Waterwheel and weather station by Guilmet.
Probably the largest and most visually exciting of the Industrial Series of clocks made by Guilmet of Paris.
A fine version of this magnificent and visually exciting clock.
In silvered and gilt bronze and with a base of superbly figured red griotte marble.
When wound the automation feature is set off by revolving the small wheel on the top left hand side of the clock. This represents the lifting of the gate holding back the water in the mill pond which drives the wheel. The water wheel revolves and the pistons and gears on either side of the timepiece to the centre of the piece revolve and go up and down.
To the left of the 8 day clock in the centre is an anaroid barometer and to the right a circular thermometer.
An outstanding piece from circa 1890. From the workshops of Guilmet in Paris.
16 inches high by 14 inches wide by 8 inches deep ( 40 cm by 35 cm by 20 cm).
