Pair Italian antique 17th century open mouthed carved and gilded heads of putti.

Pair Italian antique 17th century open mouthed carved and gilded heads of putti.
An outstanding pair of Italian carved and gilded wood winged cupids' heads. Retaining almost all their original gilding these carvings are in fine condition. Unusual for two reasons, they are carved from the much tougher oak rather than the more usual lime they are both carved with open mouths. Almost certainly part of a much larger panel they retain many of the wooden dowels that held the panel together. Perfect as decorative features beside a fireplace or on either side of a doorway. One 46 inches high by 10 inches wide, the other 45 inches high by 14 inches wide
