A lovely and very original Russian malachite mantel clock. Don't be fooled by the fakes, this is the real thing. Possibly comissioned from France the case is of cast bronze and veneered with thick cut veneers of fine Russian malachite. The gilt bronze mounts and furniture are of the highest quality in terms of casting, chasing and fire gilding. The bacchanalian child lies in a wine vessel holding bunches of grapes in both hands. The movement is a fine miniature English fusee 8 day movement. The gilt engine turned dial ( as yet unrestored) has blued steel heart shaped hands, an indication that the movement may be by Payne of Bond Street London.12 inches high by 6 inches wide by 3.5 inches deep ( 30 cms high by 15 cms wide by 9 cms deep).
