A very fine patinated bronze, ormolu and antique vert marble English Regency inkwell or ecrier. Set on a rectangular antique vert marble base, the ecrier itself stands upon ormolu paw feet. The ecrier of sarcophagus shape and in patinated bronze has four quite superb fire/mercury gilt ormolu plaques set into the patinated bronze. These are fixed from the inside by steel pins. The ormolu on the plaques is in mint original condition and are of trailing vine and grapes. Set into the top of the ecrier are three patinated bronze and ormolu topped inkwells surrounded by four pen holders. Circa 1810. 7.5 inches wide by 4.5 inches high and 4 inches deep ( 19cms by 11 cms by 10cms).
