A very fine quality desk set of the finest tortoiseshell and silver piquet and applied silver mounts. Both items are fully hallmarked for London 1904 for the eminent maker William Comyns. Of all the London silversmiths Comyns was the man best known for producing the finest work in tortoiseshell with silver piquet. The set comprises an inkstand and a letter box . The instand has the original inkwell and has bracket feet. The letter box similarly decorated with applied silver mounts and inlaid and engraved silver festoons and ribbons. William Comyns London hallmark for 1904. Inkstand 12 inches wide by 7 inches deep and 3.75 inches high (30 cms by 17.5 cms by 9.4 cms) Letter holder ( 11 inches wide by 8 inches high by 6 inches deep ( 27.5 cms by 20 cms by 15 cms)
