English late Regency Derbyshire black marble double fusee mantle clock in Egyptian style by Yonge.
A most attractive and extremely rare English late Regency double fusee mantle clock in Derbyshire black marble and in the Egyptian style. The well proportioned case is surmounted by a bronze figure of the Sphynx. To each side of the dial is applied in black marble an obelisk decorated with hieroglyphics. The superb dial made of solid silver and beautifully cast and decorated with engine turning to the centre and around the outer edge fine leaves. The numerals are Roman and waxed and the hands are of blued steel and are of the Breguet form of moon hands. The movment is exceptionally fine and is a chain driven double fusee with anchor escapement striking the hours on a bell. The movement is signed with engraved script on the backplate George and Walter Yonge Strand London. Circa 1825. 10.25 inches high by 8.5 inches wide and 3.75 inches deep ( 25.6 cms by 21 cms by 9.4 cms).
