A magnificent French coral porcelain and ormolu clock set in the "Retour d'Egypt" style . The sidepieces and clock mounted with ormolu griffins. The ormolu having the deluxe finish of having silver highlights overlaid over the gold found on only the best French clocks of this period. The coral porcelain decorated in an antico style. All on original giltwood bases. 8 day bell striking movement with steel suspended pendulum. French circa 1880 but retailed in the UK. Signed on the dial B R Hennessy Swansea who is known to have been working at 5 Wind Street in 1854. Case stamped 9641, movement stamped AB within a star. Clock 18 inches high by 12.5 inches wide by 6.5 inches deep ( 45 cms by 31.25 cms by 16.25 cms) sidepieces 12 inches high by 5.25 inches square ( 30 cms by 13.125 cms ) including bases.
