A lovely and rare model of the famous small mantel clock in original ormolu of the Dancing Bacchante or Maenad. The clock is set upon an oval base on four finely cast toupee feet. The oval base has applied ormolu mounts of a basket with thyrsae to each side. The Bacchante dances with her robes flowing, playing castanets and with a wine ewer and a drinking vessel at her feet. The watch movement at her back encased in a tambourine. Although a French clock the movement was replaced, probably shortly after it was sold in England with a fine fusee movement by William Martin, Westminster no.2025. According to Baillie he was working between 1802 -1840. 10 inches high by 5 inches wide by 3.25 inches deep ( 25 cms by 12.5 cms by 8 cms).
