An antique musical jewellery box of French origin. The box constructed of gilt bronze with fine reeded decoration to the sides and set upon four feet. The lid beautifully made with a gilt bronze scene to the centre of the interior of an 18th century ale house. This is surrounded by bands of blue and white enamel set in mother of pearl and having applied gilt bronze mounts. The lid lifts to reveal a lined interior with two sections for jewellery to be stored. As the lid lifts a spring loaded catch is released which sets off the key wound musical movement. The music plays for as long as the lid remains open or until the movement needs re-winding. As soon as the lid is closed the music stops. French circa 1890. 6 inches wide by 4.75 inches deep by 3 inches high ( 15 cms by 11.8 cms by 7.5 cms).
