This is a little Italian antique grand Tour bronze of Spinario or the "Thorn Puller". A naked youth sits on a tree stump and pulls a thorn from his foot. Original patination to this attractive bronze and set upon a rectangular bronze base with wooden lower moulding. The original ancient bronze of the Spinario is in the Capitoline Museum in Rome and was made up from fragments of a 4th or 5th century Greek bronze. Italy circa 1880. 8.5 inches high by 4.75 inches wide by 5.5 inches deep ( 21.25 cms by 12 cms by 13.75 cms).
