A very fine silver gilt fusee singing bird box with handpainted enamel lid of a posy of flowers on a blue background by the celebrated maker Charles Bruguier. The fine silver case a tour de force of the silver engravers art with the lid decorated with geometric patterns seperating flowers and foliage to the corners. Fine geometric patterns to the sides on a hatched background and the base similarly decorated. Elaborately pierced silver gilt grille through which on operating the slider to the front the ivory beaked, full feathered bird pops up and 1/ opens & shuts the ivory beak, 2/ turns its head from left to right, 3/ flaps the wings, 4/ pirouettes left and right and all the time singing his heart out. On completion of his 20 second performance he drops through the pierced silver gilt grille and the lid closes after him. It is in its original leather case. Swiss circa 1850. 1.5 inches high by 3.5 inches wide by 2.25 inches deep ( 3.75 cms by 8.75 cms by 5.625 cms).
