George III Neo-classical inkstand in ormolu, patinated bronze and statuary white marble.

George III Neo-classical inkstand in ormolu, patinated bronze and statuary white marble.
Antique English George III neo-classical ecrier or standish. Beautifully made with the finest stuary white marble, ormolu and patinated bronze. Set on a rectangular marble base with original fire or mercury gilt ormolu mouldings. Above the marble a patinated bronze leaf and flower decorated moulding holds the wonderful ormolu plinth in place. The ormolu of the plinth is decorated with bands of poicing within beading. Upon the plinth is a fine beautifully finished bronze of a sleeping cupid lying upon draped cushions. The cupid is hinged to the back of the plinth and when lifted reveals a sander and a pair of inks with cut glass bottles and gilt bronze tops set within an ormolu divider at the base of the plinth. Typical and original English nuts recessed into the marble on to the original threaded rods. Very tactile and extremely heavy and dense little object of breath taking beauty. English George III circa 1790. 6.25 inches wide by 3.75 inches deep and 4.5 inches high ( 15.6 cms by 9.4 cms by 11.25 cms).
