A Palais Royal musical necessaire in a tortoiseshell and ivory case with solid gold sewing implements. The magnificent box with a gadrooned tented tid carved from the tortoiseshell with carved ivory edge. Blond tortoiseshell all round facing sides. When the lid is opened a tray, lined with blue velvet and edged with ivory is revealed. It is set with solid gold sewing implements such as a telescopic hook, beautifully decorated needle case with Palais Royal forget-me-not flower , a needle with "Amitie" engraved on it. A lovely solid gold thimble, gold handled scissors , solid gold pocker knife with two steel blades and a beautiful solid gold and turquoise chalk scraper ( jewelled with turqoise) all in 18 carat gold. To the left of the box two levers can be seen which operate the musical box. One for starting the music, the other for changing the tune. This is an early sectional musical movement and is wound from below and has a lovely sound. French circa 1820. 6.5 inches wide by 4 inches deep by 2 inches high ( 16.25 cms by 10 cms by 5 cms. This is an exceptionally beautiful box, very unusual having the musical base and gold implements. Superb lid, one old barely visible hairline crack to lid.
