Singing bird box playing 3 songs in silver and hand painted and guilloche enamel.

Singing bird box playing 3 songs in silver and hand painted and guilloche enamel.
A very fine and rare, if not unique, silver and all over decorated polychrome enamel singing bird box of outstanding quality by Griesbaum of Germany. Perhaps another experimental model, not mentioned or illustrated in any text books on the subject. The fine hand made movement to a most unusual construction. The most important difference is that instead of two cams operating song and movement there are six cams. After each performance another set of cams are used automatically. So you start with cam set 1, then cam set 2 and finally cam set 3 before starting gain at cam set 1. This is an extremely rare feature that as far as I know has not been seen on any other singing bird box.The lustrous decoration includes pastoral scenes with courting couples and enamel stringing and panels on all four sides with further hand painted enamelling on oval panels to the front and back. On sliding the operating lever the lid opens and the full bodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving beak, the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers. 4 inches wide 2.5 inches deep by 1.75 inches high ( 10 cms by 6 .25 cms by 4.4 cms).
