A fine Napoleon III period antique thermometer in a gilt bronze and marble case with strut support. The background marble is antique vert and in excellent condition. The thermometer set on an ivory scale and marked Thermometer and Farenheit, clearly made for the English market. The ivory scale is enclosed by a gilt bronze beading. The frame of the piece itself is well cast with leaf and dart decoration all around the outside edge with a crest of swans drinking from a fountain. France circa 1880.
