Antique ebonized portico clock inlaid with brass and shell.
A good French Portico clock in the classical form of a Greek or Roman temple. Set on bracket feet with the base having an ogee moulf ding. The pillars have gilt bronze capitals and bases. The case is ebonised and has fine inlay of gilt brass and abalone shell to the front of the case in the form of flowers and a fountain. This is all of excellent quality and condition. The dial with visible escapement has a gilt bronze centre and a silvered annular dial with Roman hour chapters and brass moon hands. The movement is of 8 day duration, bell striking the hours and halves and with a gridiron pendulum. Signed on the dial Laine a Paris who was working at Rue de Vaugirard in 1860. France circa 1860. 22 inches high (54.5 cms).
