Antique French Charles X ormolu and alabaster lyre clock.
The casting and finishing of the ormolu on this lyre clock is quite exceptionally fine.
The rectangular alabaster base stands on four ormolu bun feet.
An ormolu moulding of acanthus leaf and dart design surrounds the base and fine applied mounts of kneeling winged young men offer flowers to the large urn already overflowing with flowers.
The alabaster body of the clock is supported by acanthus leaf to the sides and applied to the front a wreath with a thyrus through it.
The superb dial which is annular and of white enamel on copper has an ormolu centre cut out in the form of Anthemion and forget me not flowers and is surrounded first with a ring of forget me not flowers and laurel leaves and then a further concentric ring of vine leaf and grapes.
The alabaster arms of the lyre are further decorated with fine applied mounts of Anthemion and Acanthus with trailing floral decoration and terminating in two fine mounts of the heads of big cats.
Between the arms is a block holding the strings of the lyre and each outside edge is an ormolu bud terminal. Standing upon the block is a berrribonned wreath.
The movement is of 8 day duration, regulated by a silk suspended pendulum and strikes the hours and halves on a bell.
