Fine antique cast of the famous sculpture of the Neopolitan fisher boy by Francois Rude. The young boy is sitting on a fishing net and and holds on to a turtle. Deep brown patination. It has the Collas Reduction Mechanique and is the 16 cm or smallest reduction made of this iconic subject that was first exhibited in 1833. France Circa 1850 6..5 inches high by 7 inches wide by 4 inches deep ( 16 cms by 17.5 cms by 10 cm). Francois Rude was born in 1784 and died in 1855. Rude's story is one of success after success and a short bigraphy can be found in Kjellberg's "Bronzes of the 19th Century".
