Silver, mother of pearl and enamel strut clock with decoration
A very unusual strut clock of silver, mother-of-pearl and guilloche enamel showing the phase of the moon and all the signs of the zodiac. Of square two dimensional form the circular dial is of mother of pearl with hand painted Arabic hour numerals and is signed "Brooking Madrid" who were clearly the retailers as this is a French clock. Surrounding the dial is a concentric circle in silver of annular form with a ring of black enamel to the outside edge and a ring of green enamel to the inside. This circle has four cut away areas each of which have within them illustrating three beautifully painted icons from the signs of the Zodiac. The areas not cut away are of beautiful lime green guilloche enamel in basket weave design. To the four corners of the clock face are painted phases of the moon against a starry background. The clock is French and has French silver marks. Also a makers mark of a star and crescent moon within a diamond shaped cartouche. The clock is numbered on the case 3900. French circa 1920. 4.5 inches square ( 11.25 cms).
