A very fine example of this style of carriage clock. French and dating from the end of the 19th century this clock is one of the most exuberant examples of the genre that I have seen.
The case of gilt bronze has bamboo stems for columns and feet and also the handle.
The porcelain panels to each side and the front show courting birds among foliage including cherry blossom. Each panel also has asymetric cartouches within each panel.
The porcelain dial with gold chapter ring and black Roman numerals has blued steel hands. The panel is decorated with birds, butterflies and cherry blossom with further asymetric cartouches.
The alarm dial is below 6 o'clock of the main chapter ring.
A very pretty and unusual case.
Fine 8 day movement with platform lever escapement. Striking the hours and halves on a steel gong and repeating the previous hour by pressing the button to the top of the case.
The clock also has an excellent and easy to use alarm function.
French circa 1890.
