A fine quality antique musical box in the form of a miniature grand piano. Constructed of gilt bronze and hand painted Austrian enamel .When the lid protecting the piano keys is lifted the music box plays and it stops when the lid is replaced. The enamel is on all parts of the piano. On the lifting lid of the piano, under the lid, on the lid over the piano keys and when that is lifted the keys are painted too. All around the body of the piano it is painted with polychrome scenes of courting couples in rural idylls and with winged putti in orchards. The movement is key wound from below. Austria circa 1890. 6 inches wide by 4. inches deep and 3 inches high ( 15 cm by 10 cm by 7.5 cm).
