Antique and very large 19th Century French ormolu and porcelain mantel clock in breakfront case mounted with 15 panels, finials and columns of perfect, hand painted porcelain on the clock.
Exceptional size and quality.
Very unusually there are three charming hand painted and jewelled porcelain vignettes of children playing.
1/. The dial shows two children playing with three wooden tops.
2/. The plaque below the dial shows three children playing leap frog.
3/. The third panel has one child reading a book while another aims a kick at another child's backside.
Some panels bearing manuscript details and signatures verso ( Charpentier).
The D ended case modelled as a large lidded urn flanked by two smaller urns on columns, around a central dial with Roman numerals, draped with swags and ribbons and with a cherub peering around either side, the stepped base with leaf moulded borders on six turned or tapering rectangular feet with glazed rear door.
8 day movement striking the hours and halves and inscribed Marti et Cie, Medaille de Bronze and the letters CAB.
France circa 1870-80.
The movement and the panels are all marked for Charpentier a Paris.
23 inches high by 20 inches wide by 7 inches deep ( 57.5 cms by 50 cms by 17.5 cms) ( 25 inches high including blue linen covered gilt wood base).
