Antique Pair of French Charles X period blackamoor candlesticks representing America.
These candlesticks of exceptional quality and very rare form.
The two figures, one male one female are dressed in "native" clothing both with feathered head dress, bows and arm bands. The male also has a feathered skirt.
Both figures are parcel gilt with all uncovered flesh a deep brown patination.
What is most unusual about these figures is that they both have serene early 19th century European faces with heavily curled hair rather than Native American faces with their straight hair.
They stand upon circular bases and each hold up a single candle sconce.
These very rare candlesticks are a niaive representation of how this early 19th century designer and his workshop perceived "Native Americans".
France circa 1830.
13.5 inches tall by 4 inches in diameter ( 33.75 cm by 10 cm).
