A fine pair of Antique early to Mid 19th century classical figures of Mercury and Hope.
Set on square black marble bases on round be-ribboned socle rising to a reeded column all in patinated bronze.
On each column is a globe on which each figure stands. Mercurys globe is a representation of the sky with stars and held aloft by clouds.
Hope's globe is a representation of the earth as it is possible to see a terrestrial map.
Mercury, with winged cap and heels stands on one leg, adjusting a wing and reaching for the heavens.
Hope, holding Pandora's box in one hand and a cornucopia high above her head also stands on one foot. She has her hairup and wears loosely flowing robes.
Possibly English circa 1840.
15 inches high by 4 inches square at the base ( 37.5 cm by 10cm).
