A very attractive silver and hand painted and guilloche enamel singing bird box. The German singing bird box was produced by Griesbaum and is one of his best models and the most expensive to produce. The enamel on this box is in mint and perfect condition without having any repairs. It has the typical silver bird activation slide to the front. This singing bird box was produced in about 1925-30 and is not one of the horrors that have been reproduced since the 1960's in gilt bronze with awful enamel and plastic parts to the movements. This one is the real thing. It works beautifully, is in mint condition and also has a fitted travelling case. On pressing the silver bird lever to the right the lid lifts and the beautifully feathered bird pops up through the pierced grill and begins singing. The bird turns to the right and left, singing all the time, opening and closing his beak and flapping both wings. When he has comleted his song he pops down into the box through the grill and the lid closes. German circa 1925-30. 4.5 inches wide by 2.5 inches deep by 1.5 inches high ( 10 cm by 6.25 cm by 3.75 cm).
