A very attractive and unusual Empire clock
in ormolu of a cupid beneath a helmet.
A lovely design with a cupid sitting on a day bed holding his bow in one hand and an arrow in the other. He sits beneath an ormolu mounted patinated bronze helmet with an ormolu mount of a grotesque mask to the helmet's peak and an ormolu tasselled helm and ormolu ear guards.
The day bed has tasselled corners and fine bracket feet with forget-me-not flower terminals. Between the bracket feet is a lozenge with crossed swords within a wreath.
The rectangular base sitting upon toupee feet has a large applied mount to the front with crossed war clubs over the lighting bolts of Zeus. Further applied mounts to each side have a bow and qiver hanging from ribbons.
The movement and dial are set within the helmet. The white convex enamel dial is set within a superb ormolu bezel. The hour numerals are of Roman style and in black.
The original gilt bronze hands are of a fine and delicate design.
The dial is signed Gustaf Unden.
The movement is of 8 day duration and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. The timekeeping is regulated by a silk suspended pendulum.
Circa 1807.
12.75 inches wide (32cm).
