Antique English Regency neo-classical mantel clock of Psyche and Cupid. A fine case of rouge marble, patinated bronze and original ormolu. The superb rouge marble breakfront base with D ends is set upon six two piece ormolu toupee feet. The base is decorated with ormolu stars and discs and to the centre, fine applied ormolu griffins among Amthemion decoration. Surrounding the base is heavy ormolu beading. The figures of Psyche and Cupid are in patinated bronze, with Cupid standing on ormolu clouds while Psyche stands upon the base, both reaching out to each other with a laurel branch between them. The clock itself sits upon a patinated bronze plinth with laurel leaf decoration and the movement and dial sit within a fine ormolu drum. The large white convex enamel dial with offset winding hole and finely decorated gilt bronze hands has Arabic hour numerals. The dial is surrounded by a beautifully decorated ormolu bezel. The movement is of 8 day duration, key wound and is an English fusee timepiece movement with fixed pendulum. The clock English circa 1805. 17.5 inches high by 16.25 inches wide by 6 inches deep ( 43.75 cm by 40.5 cm by 15 cm).
