Antique French First Empire ormolu mantel clock of Diana
A fabulous antique French First Empire ormolu mantel clock of Diana. She carries a bow in her left hand and a prominent applied ormolu mount on the side of the clock housing has a reperesentation of arrows. There are further mounts to the front of the case with quivers for arrows held by swans on a lyre. The ormolu is in superb condition and of a beautiful rich colour. Very nice large bun feet and a very classical design puts this clock soundly in the First Empire period. The dial of white convex enamel with blued steel Breguet style moon hands is surrounded by a fine ormolu bezel of roses. The movement is of 8 day duration and is regulated by a silk suspended pendulum. The movement strikes the hours and halves on a fine cast bell by means of countwheel; strike. France circa 1810. 20 inches high by 13.5 inches wide by 6 inches deep ( 50 cm by 33.75 cm by 15 cm).
