The inkwell has been cleverly blown within the huge glass base. The large "goliath" 8 day running watch is held in a silver frame with a solid silver swing mechanism which allows it to lie flat, shutting the inkwell but simultaneously allowing the time to be seen , also to raise it at a 45 degree angle over the inkwell for easy viewing or back further still, clearing the inkwell completely. The inkwell is marked "Mappin and Webb Nice Importe Anglaterre".All the silver is hallmarked for Mappin and Webb, Birmingham 1913. It has an intrigueing inscription date of 1894-1914.
