Unusual antique anthropomorphic bronze clock set with a bear lying on the top of the clock and two bears below holding up the clock dial and movement, in a drum case. The bears are carrying woodworking tools of hammers and azes either in their hands or in their belts and are reminiscent of images of the dwarves in Disney cartoons. To each side of the clock on a circular base is the figure of a bear, with glass eyes, holding up a candlestick. The bears have a lovely green/brown patination throughout. The bears stand on gilt bases and the clock drum is gilt and has a gilt dial with individual white enamel hour chapters. 8 day movement with lever escapement. French circa 1900. 9 inches high ( 22.5 cm). Bear candlesticks 7.5 inches high ( 17.5 cm).
