Antique French Industrial Series mantle clock probably by Guilmet modelled as a ship's carronade in gilt and patinated bronze. Set on a fine rouge marble base with gilt bronze edging. The carronade sits on an ormolu cradle to the front of exceptional detail and with rotating axle. To the back is an elevating screw adjustment, the carronade held down by ropes ( steel) fixed to anchor points to each rear corner of base. The top of the carronade has a pair of sights. The dial is within a glazed ormolu bezel and is of gilt and silvered bronze with blued steel hands. The movement is of 8 day duration and regulated by a platform lever escapement. Original gilding and patination ( some rubbing of gilding to exposedsurfaces commensurate with age). A very rare piece indeedand in excellent condition French 19th century. 7 inches high by 9 inches wide by 5 inches deep ( 17.5cm by 23cm by 12.5 cm).
