Magnificent Antique French Empire fire or mercury gilt ormolu mantel clock depicting a horse drawn chariot, Zephyr holding a mask and a doll. Zephyr was the greek god of the west wind The gentlest of the winds, Zephyrus is known as the fructifying wind, the messenger of spring. This fine little clock, set upon four bun feet under a shaped oval base. The front of the base with an applied ormolu mount depicting trumpets, wreaths, and two figures, one wearing a crown. The clockwork is set in the wheel of the chariot drawn by a horse. To the front of the chariot is a gargoyle or grotesque holding the reins. Super original ormolu with both matt and burnished finishes. The dial in the wheel of the chariot has a fine ormolu bezel and the dial is of white enamel and has breguet moon form hands. The movement is a front key winding verge escapement and fusee driven, of 30 hour duration. A Beautiful little clock. French circa 1810. 9 inches high by 7 and a half inches in length and 2 and a half inches deep.
