A very attractive Art Nouveau white carrera marble, patinated bronze and marble vert bust signed A. Gory Paris, for Affortunato Gory (1895-1925). A practitioner of chryselephantine sculpture, Gori reveled in the contrasts of different materials, brought together to add vibrancy to his subject. Here the cool white marble of the girl's skin is set off against the patinted bronze. The Florentine Affortunato Gori was a pupil of Augusto Rivalta. Whilst few details of his life are known, his work appears to have had a wide following. He exhibited a number of times at the Paris Salon between 1904 to 1923. 47cm High French circa 1920
