French "Oarsman" Automata from the industrial series by A.R. Guilmet of Paris. In gilt, patinated and silvered bronze and rouge griotte marble base with rocking mariner. Retailed by R.H Turner of Paris. The eight day timepiece movement and gilt bronze dial with arabic numerals, blued steel hands, the oarsman forming the compound pendulum for the single barrel key-less wind movement. The movement numbered 345, making this quite an early piece by Guilmet. Guilmet worked from 1870 to 1910, known for his Industrial and mystery clocks. A very fine and very rare piece, the finely detailed clock with bronzed hull, furled sails in silvered bronze, the choppy sea in patinated bronze, the rower who, as part of the pendulum, realilisticly rocks to and fro as he 'rows' as an automaton, constanty. We have left the clock case uncleaned so far, whilst we decide whether to clean it, as we like the aged look, but would clean it free of charge if the new owner so desired.
