Antique French Charles X period "Au bon Sauvage" mantel clock. Very rare, this is not a model we have ever seen before, possibly a one off. Set upon four ormolu feet, the clock depicts an African Baobab tree, in patinated bronze, with gilt bronze birds in the branches, and a superbly detailed African standing beside the tree, with spear and bow in hands. Wonderful definition in the bronze. The dial, with insert roman numerals on enamel, the rest of dial in gilt bronze with breguet form hands, and flowers decorating the bezel. 8 day silk suspension movement striking the hours and halves on a bell. A very rare clock. France circa 1820 24.5 Inches High by 17.75 Inches Wide and 7 Inches Deep (62cm by 45cm by 18cm)
