A quite superb French Louis XVIth library clock of large size dating from 1785. The case constructed of patinated bronze, ormolu & griotte marble. The bronzes, a male & female are playing a lyre and pipes. Superb ormolu frieze in the base of Cupids playing is after a design by Thomire. Dial signed Corniquet a Chaillot. Massive 8 day bell striking movement on silk suspension with calendar work. 25 inches wide and 22 inches tall.
