A very rare and unusual pair of figural candlesticks in ormolu, patinated bronze and parcel gilt. Set an an ormolu, shaped 12 sides base with the finest raised cast knurled decoration rising to a low cupola, bust of three mermaids on a cylindrical stem. To heads' of the mermaids is set an ormolu crown and above this the finely worked candle sconce and drip pan. The heads and busts of the mermaids are in the finest parcel gilt ormolu, hand chased after the gilding process. The bodies of the mermaids terminate in entwined patinated bronze tails. These candlesticks are Russian or Baltic in origin. Height 8.5 inches by 3.75 inches across the base ( 21 cms by 9.25 cms),
