A very good pair of three branch candelabra with the base and bowl in Russian marble and mounted in very finely cast, chased and gilded fire/mercury gilded ormolu. Set on a square marble base with a rim of acanthus leaf decorated ormolu between the base and the stem, then a cup in ormolu of stiff leaf decoration holding the marble body of the candelabra. To each side of the body is an ormolu handle decorated with a mask of Bacchus. The lovely candle holders are of peonies and roses further decorated with buds, flowers and leaves. The marble is Russian and it may be that the candelabra are too, however it is possible that they are French. Circa 1840 in the Louis XVI style. 23 inches high by 4.25 inches square at the base ( 58 cms by 11 cms).
