A very good pair of English Derbyshire Blue John urns set on a square base with gilt bronze collar and base. The urns which are in excellent condition with very minor blemishes to the base marble have great depth. This very rare fleurospar, only found in England, with very distinctive colouring, was made famous by the Blue John mounted objects of Mathew Boulton who supplied the Royal families of Europe and the aristocracy at the end of the 18th century, including large quantities to Empress Catherine the Great of Russia. The colour of these urns is typical of the 19th century however the quality of the Blue John to the bases is more akin to that found only in the 18th century. 13.5 inches high by 4.25 inches square ( 34 cms by 10.5 cms)
