A fine borne shaped French Empire mantel clock constructed of beautifully figured and coloured griotte marble and the finest ormolu mounts. Set upon ormolu bun feet the case has fine fire/mercury gilded mounts to each side of a flaming torch with crossed arrows and surrounded by a ring of stars. Below the dial is another beautiful ormolu mount of one of Apollo's muses, probably Terpsichore.The fine dial is surrounded by a magnificently cast bezel of ormolu roses. The convex white dial is signed " Deniere & Matelin Fabs de Bronzes a Paris" and having Roman numerals and Breguet style blued steel moon hands. 8 day bell striking movement with silk suspension. Circa 1815. 15.5 inches high by 7 inches wide ( 39 cms by 17 cms).
