Superb silver gilt and all over enamel singing bird box by Griesbaum of Germany, This is his model number 7 which was always the most expensive and elaborate of his output. Decorated to the top with courting couples in a wooded landscape and the lid showing a village on the banks of a river. Further enamel ovals to the front and back of the case and guilloche enamel plaques to the sides. On sliding the operating lever the enamel lid opens and the full
bodied bird pops through the grille & begins singing. It has a moving beak,
the bird turns, flaps his wings and tail and after his performance pops down through the grille & the lid lowers. Silver hallmarked for import to England 1929. 4 inches wide by 2.75 inches deep by 1.75 inches high ( 10 cms by 7 cms by 4.4 cms).
