A full sized version of this very popular 18th century model of the "Allegory of Study" clock. The figure of the muse of study is after the original by Laurent Guiard. On four ormolu feet and set upon a rectangular base of antique vert and statuary marble the figure of Study sits upon a stool leaning against the clock case. White enamel dial signed Balthazard Paris. 8 day bell striking movement. Circa 1850. 28 inches wide by 18 inches high and 10 inches deep 70 cms by 45 cms by 25 cms).
